Arrow diameter: which limits apply to your event?

Arrow diameter limits vary across target events. NFAA, The Vegas Shoot, ASA, IBO and World Archery publish different shaft limits and measurement rules. The page breaks out each published limit so you can compare the event rulebook before choosing a shaft.

World Archery Rule Book 3 (Target Archery) caps arrow shaft diameter at 9.3 mm, leaves wraps out of that limit but not beyond 22 cm from the nock groove, and caps points at 9.4 mm[3]. ASA limits arrows to 9.3 mm or .366 inch (2300 series) with points up to 9.4 mm or .370 inch in its women's 40-yard-and-under classes, Young Adult, Youth and Eagle[4]. ASA Olympic Recurve classes follow the World Archery rules, with arrow shafts capped at 9.3 mm or .366 inch and points at 9.4 mm or .370 inch[4]. IBO rules allow a maximum arrow diameter of 27/64 inch (.422), with a point diameter allowance up to .425 inch[5].

Checking an arrow listing against the rules

Compare the actual shaft, point, wrap and nock measurements against your class rules. Catalog groups can include shafts and replacement components with different dimensions. A series name or a place in this product block does not certify event eligibility. For the term, see the arrow diameter glossary entry.

Stock counts and prices reflect the catalog data used when this page was built. They can change. Check each product listing for current details.

Fletching wraps and shaft diameter

Check which parts your rulebook includes in its measurement and where it defines the measuring points. A shaft diameter alone does not establish whether the point, wrap or nock also fits the rule. Use the rule text linked above for your event and class.
