Field-point grain match

The grain marking is the head’s weight. Keep it consistent with the arrow setup you use for practice unless the bow and arrow makers approve another configuration.

Fixed-blade and mechanical heads

Fixed-blade heads have exposed blades; mechanical heads open after impact. Follow the head maker’s assembly and inspection instructions for the model you choose.

Cutting diameter and blade configuration

Bent ferrule or damaged blade

Inspect the assembled head, shaft, and insert as their makers instruct. Do not hunt with a bent ferrule, damaged blade, or loose component.
