Archery term

D-Loop

What does D-Loop mean?

A D-loop is a short cord tied to a compound-bow string around the arrow’s nocking point. It gives a mechanical release aid a place to attach without attaching directly to the bowstring. Have a bow technician tie or replace a loop that is frayed or damaged before shooting.

Why it matters

D-loop material, length, knot security, and placement affect fit and string wear. Have a bow technician install or replace it, and inspect for fraying before shooting. Do not draw a damaged loop or attach a release in a way the bow maker does not allow.

What to check

  • Use material and length specified for the bow and release setup.
  • Have a technician tie and inspect the loop if you are not trained to do the work.
  • Do not draw a frayed or damaged loop.
