Total Archery Challenge gear checklist
Pack for a Total Archery Challenge (TAC) day by starting with the bow, field-point arrows and release you already use. Check the current event rules and the event page before travel. Then add water, food, weather protection, batteries and repair items that fit the venue and that you know how to use.

Read event rules before packing
Check the TAC FAQ and your event page before travel. TAC says its courses can range from 20 to 120 yards; check the specific event page for available courses[1]. TAC says shooters may use the warm-up range when the event is open[1]. The following rules affect what you bring.
Bow, case and notes
Inspect equipment with the procedure published for that bow before travel. Carry tools only for adjustments you know how to make. String, serving, peep and D-loop work can require a press or other specialist equipment; do not treat a spare part as a field repair plan.
- Your usual bow, quiver and protective case
- Your usual release
- Tools suited to adjustments you are trained to make
- A record or photo of bow, arrow and sight settings
Sight and adjustment tools
Bring the sight you have checked with this bow and arrow setup. Check the instructions for that exact sight and pack any tool they call for. Keep its manual and a record of the settings you verified. If a tape is damaged or disturbed before the event, follow those instructions and confirm each setting again at known distances.
Optional slider-sight checks
Before travel, confirm the sight configuration and mount, check its adjustment range and clearance, and verify the distances you plan to use. If comparing a movable sight, inspect its individual model and maker instructions. The sight setup guide compares configurations without treating any distance as established until you verify it.
Rangefinder and batteries
Before packing the unit, confirm how its selected mode reports distance and angle in the manual for that exact model. Check that same manual for the battery type. If the model uses replaceable batteries, check them and pack the spares it calls for. Practice with the unit and verify the sight setting at known distances before the event.

Field-point arrows and spares
Bring arrows that match your bow setup and use field points. Check shaft spine with the selector for that shaft, using measured peak draw weight, arrow length and the complete point, insert, collar or outsert stack. Inspect arrows with the method published for that shaft. If you need replacement arrows, use the TAC arrow setup guide to check fit, then browse archery arrows.
Day pack
Weather, terrain and event length shape what you may want to carry. These are personal packing suggestions, separate from the event rules above. Lancaster Archery Supply's TAC gear guide is another packing reference.
- A backup release or spare release head
- Water and food for the day
- Navigation suited to the venue
- Hat and sun protection
- Rain shell and a dry bag for phone or release
- Gloves suited to the forecast
- Basic first aid supplies
- Charged phone or battery bank
- Broken-in footwear; trekking poles if useful on the terrain
Practice target and range
For setup practice, choose a full-form 3D target rated for your bow and field points. TAC says it uses primarily Rinehart targets[1]. Check the rating for that practice target, use a safe backstop and confirm distance before shooting. Browse archery targets, then check the exact model's rating for your equipment and points.
Sight tape check
Use the tape selection method for your exact sight and verify marks at known distances with the complete bow and arrow setup. Recheck after changing components. For maker instructions and tape guidance, see the sight setup page.
Questions
What should I pack for a Total Archery Challenge shoot?
Bring your normal bow and field-point arrows, then check the TAC FAQ for event rules. Water, food, weather layers, a backup release, navigation, a rangefinder and familiar tools are optional suggestions, not blanket event requirements.
