Crossbow packages: which one fits your hunt?
Crossbow packages differ in cocking routine, fit and what the exact package includes. These six full-size hunting models cover rope cockers, integrated cocking systems and a recurve design. Maker specifications show practical differences in dimensions and included gear; use them to narrow your shortlist, not as a field-tested brand ranking.

Start with cocking, fit and what is in the box
Shortlist the Barnett Recruit XP or Wicked Ridge Warrior 400 if you prefer a rope cocker. Compare the CenterPoint Sinister 430D, TenPoint Turbo X or Ravin R8 XK7 if an integrated crank/de-cocking system is a priority. The Excalibur Mag MAX is the recurve choice, with a rope aid and maker-listed bow-only and equipped weights.
For a like-for-like cocked axle-to-axle comparison, the R8 is 6.5 in axle-to-axle when cocked[1] and the Turbo X is 9.5 in axle-to-axle when cocked[2]. For the Sinister, its maker separately lists 9 in cocked width[3]. Confirm the measurement basis before comparing it with axle-to-axle figures. Check stock fit, package contents and dimensions against your case and vehicle. The product cards show Point Blank prices captured for this guide; listings can change. Follow the exact model’s instructions for de-cocking.
Stock counts and prices reflect the catalog data used when this page was built. They can change. Check each product listing for current details.
Six full-size hunting packages to compare
Six hunting models: where each fits
| Model | Choose it when… | Maker-listed details | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Barnett Recruit XP | You want a full-size hunting package with rope cocking. | 350 fps; 6 lb listed; 150 lb draw weight. The package lists a scope, quiver, rope cocker, wax and two 20-inch arrows.[4] | Rope cocking, not an integrated crank; check the stock fit and cocking routine. |
| CenterPoint Sinister 430D | You want an integrated crank/de-cocking system and adjustable bullpup stock. | 430 fps, 164 ft-lb, 9.3 lb, 30 in long and 9 in cocked. Includes a scope, three 20-inch arrows, quiver, rail lube and integrated crank.[3] | The maker page does not state the arrow basis for its peak speed; compare fit and case dimensions. |
| Excalibur Mag MAX | You prefer a recurve design and want bow-only versus equipped weight stated separately. | 350 fps; 32 in overall; 6 lb without accessories and 7.9 lb with included accessories installed. The maker lists 175 lb draw effort. Package includes a scope, quiver, three 16.5 in Quill arrows, three 100-grain field points and a Ceasefire rope aid.[5] | The maker lists a rope aid and a 175 lb draw effort[5]; that figure is not the operating force of a crank system. |
| Wicked Ridge Warrior 400 | You want a six-position stock and a rope-cocking package with a named arrow basis. | 400 fps / 146 ft-lb with a 410-grain Match 400 arrow; 6.4 lb; 33.5 in long without the foot stirrup and 11 in axle-to-axle when cocked. The stock adjusts across six positions. Includes scope, three Match 400 arrows, rope cocker and quiver.[6] | It uses a rope cocker; check the maker chart for arrows approved for the exact model. |
| TenPoint Turbo X | You prioritize integrated cocking/de-cocking and want speed tied to named arrows. | 415 fps / 157 ft-lb with 410-grain Pro Elite 400; 395 fps / 154 ft-lb with named 445-grain arrows. Lists 6.8 lb, 33.25 in long without the foot stirrup, 9.5 in axle-to-axle when cocked; scope, three arrows, quiver and ACUslide included.[2] | Compare its cocked width and listed length without the foot stirrup with your case. |
| Ravin R8 XK7 | You want a particularly narrow cocked profile and integrated cocking. | 420 fps with a 400-grain arrow; 7.55 lb; 32.5 in long and 6.5 in axle-to-axle when cocked. The package includes an illuminated scope, three Ravin arrows, quiver and built-in Versa-Draw system.[1] | Its 6.5 in axle-to-axle when cocked[1] is a model-specific fit figure, not a performance ranking; use Ravin arrows and nocks. |
These are maker specifications, not a controlled speed or weight test. The table identifies an arrow basis when a maker lists one; peak speeds without a matching arrow basis are not directly comparable. The product cards identify the Point Blank package selected for each example; confirm included equipment on that exact listing before ordering. For more on choosing a crossbow and matching bolts, see the crossbow guide and bolt guide.
Budget for the usable package, not just the bow
The table lists the maker-stated contents of each package. Budget separately for approved practice arrows, a suitable target and compatible hunting points as needed; check the full arrow-and-point combination against the maker’s instructions and local rules.
Check arrow and nock compatibility by exact model
Arrow length, spine, weight, nock and point requirements vary by model; do not choose replacements by length or weight alone. TenPoint’s chart separates models and arrow families. Excalibur’s Mag MAX page lists Quill arrows and field points for that package; use the exact model instructions for replacements. Ravin specifies its arrows and clip-on nocks for the R8. Check the exact manual before buying arrows, nocks or broadheads.
Confirm the complete arrow-and-point combination in the crossbow and broadhead instructions, then check local hunting rules. A broadhead labeled for crossbows is not proof of fit on every model.
Handling and care
Use the exact model’s instructions for cocking, de-cocking and maintenance. Do not dry-fire a crossbow.
Check rules where you hunt
Crossbow rules vary by state, season and permit. Check the current wildlife-agency regulation before buying. TenPoint’s state directory is a starting point; confirm with the agency.
