Archery term

Grams

What does Grams mean?

A gram (g) is a metric unit of mass. Archery components and arrow weights are often listed in grains instead: one gram equals about 15.432 grains, and one grain equals exactly 0.06479891 grams. Convert units before comparing specs, then check total finished-arrow mass against the bow maker’s minimum.

Why it matters

Use one unit consistently when adding arrow components. A grain scale set to grains and a product listing in grams need a conversion before you compare them. For instance, 100 grains is about 6.48 grams, while 100 grams is about 1,543 grains.

What to check

  • Convert first: 1 gram is about 15.432 grains, and 1 grain is about 0.0648 grams.
  • Check whether a product lists shaft-only or finished-arrow mass.
  • Follow the bow or crossbow maker’s minimum finished-arrow mass.
